Frequently Asked Questions

What if my dog doesn’t have off-leash experience?

Not a problem. We start new dogs on a 15–30 ft leash to build recall using treats and praise. Many dogs transition quickly, some stay on a long or short leash by owner preference.

How do the dogs stay together and with you?

Dogs naturally sync with the group on trail. We guide that with a clear recall cue, regular check-ins, and rewards—treats and praise—so staying close always pays off.

Are you dog trainers?

We’re not trainers—we’re a dog hiking service focused on exercise, enrichment, and consistent recall practice on trail. If your dog has behavioral issues (e.g., aggression or severe reactivity), we recommend working with a certified trainer; we’re happy to reinforce their cues once your dog is ready for group hikes.

Where do you hike?

We use quieter, less-trafficked local trails around Cache Valley and the Preston area, chosen for safety—good sightlines with room to spread out. We avoid crowded spots and peak times, leash near other trail users, and rotate routes for variety, shade, and water when available.

Do you hike year round?

Yes—year-round in all seasons. We only postpone for safety: lightning or extreme cold (below 5°F); otherwise we adjust routes, pace, and timing to keep everyone comfortable. Pups have a blast in snow and rain.

What if my dog has a history of running away?

We start on-leash or a 15–30 ft long line and test recall with clear cues, treats, and praise, gradually increasing freedom only when it’s safe. We’ll assess in different settings to understand triggers; if flight risk stays high, we keep adventures on-leash or recommend trainer support before group off-leash.

How old does a dog have to be to go?

We accept puppies beginning at 4–6 months.

Do you meet my dog before a first-time hike?

Our booking intake gives us what we need to prepare, and the First Time Hike functions as a careful meet-and-assess on trail. If you’d like an intro call or quick doorstep hello beforehand, we’re happy to arrange it.

Do I need to be home for pickup/drop-off

No. We can pick up from a kennel, backyard, garage, or even your workplace. Make sure to leave instructions for pickup and drop-off during the booking process.

How do subscriptions work?

You prepay for a set number of monthly hikes at a discount (up to ~25% off), then book the days that work for you. Subscriptions auto-renew and can be canceled anytime before the next cycle; they also help reserve your pup’s spot in our packs.

What does my dog need for their first hike?

A well-fitting collar or harness with ID; bring any tools you already use (e.g., e-collar) and let us know your preferences. We provide long lines, water, poop bags, and treats.

What’s your cancellation policy?

If you would like to cancel your booked hike and do not want to reschedule, please contact us. If you contact us more than 24 hours before your booked hike, we are happy to provide you with a full refund.  If you cancel after the 24 hour deadline, the hike is non-refundable.
